Duchessa – Chiusi – Tuscany
6+2 Bedrooms – Pool
This amazing neo-gothic property is set in the splendid Tuscan countryside between Perugia and Siena. Nearby Montepulciano is a stunning hilltop Renaissance town, famed not only for its beauty and car-free centre but also for the quality of its fine wines. The Cantucci family, for example, has been creating fine wines since the 1700s and is considered one of the founding fathers of the exceptional red wine, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Another sought-after red wine, the Brunello di Montalcino, has been produced in the hills around Montalcino since the early 14th century, partly due to the fact that Montalcino has the warmest and driest climate in Tuscany.
If you’re looking for magnificent medieval hilltop towns, then Orvieto is a great place to start. It is perhaps one of the most dramatic towns in Europe for its setting on a high, flat summit. It has remained more or less unchanged since the Middle Ages and boasts a spectacular Cathedral and secret labyrinth of 1200 underground tunnels. The tunnels were mainly used as secret escapes for the aristocratic homes during times of siege.
Perugia is a charming university town and hosts an annual Chocolate Fair along its pretty streets. It was one of the main Etruscan cities in Italy and is today a well-known cultural and artistic focal point.
The international airports of Pisa, Florence and Perugia are 200 km, 140 km and 100 km away respectively. Siena, with its stunning piazzas and legendary Palio horse race, is only 70 km away, Florence 130 km, Perugia 90 km, Orvieto 50 km and Montalcino only 45 km away. Montepulciano is less than 20 km.
Duchessa is the perfect location for poetic admirers of detailed quality, grace and beauty.
Villa Accommodation
The original building dates back to the latter half of the 18th century and the surrounding private parkland covers more than 20 hectares. The villa has undergone a complete restoration under the expert eye of designer Astrid Schiller Wirth and the resulting work of art is a joy to behold.
A grand entrance e hall on the ground floor opens onto a spacious sitting room with fireplace and library. The elegant dining room is flanked on either side by another cozy sitting room and a comfortable television room. The large kitchen is fully equipped with all the modern appliances one could wish for.
There are four king size double bedrooms on the first floor, each with luxurious, en suite, marble bathroom facilities. Astrid Schiller Wirth’s attention to stylish detail is lavished on these rooms with their wooden floors, classic Tuscan furniture and large windows. Romance abounds in the all-white Honeymoon Suite with its four poster bed and large walk-in closet.
The Honeymoon Suite also has a private terrace and freestanding bathtub with marvellous views out over the park.
There are two further double bedrooms on the second floor, each with a French bed and private bathroom.
There is also an elegant secondary residence close to the main property, known as La Foresteria. It contains two large bedrooms (one double and one twin), both with en suite bathrooms, a relaxing sitting room with fireplace, a large live-in kitchen and a private outside patio area for al fresco dining.
